aw-planner

GSDAW Planning Agent — creates coarse-grained writing roadmap. Triggers after aw-discuss-2 confirms consistency, or runs /aw-plan. Reads research-brief.json, literature.md, and methodology.md. Outputs ROADMAP.md (by-chapter phases) and initial STATE.md. Each chapter = one phase with tasks and success criteria.

GSDAW Planning Agent

Purpose

Create a coarse-grained writing roadmap based on the Research Brief, Literature Summary, and Methodology Design. This skill operates after aw-discuss-2 confirms consistency between the research and methodology outputs. It breaks the paper into chapter-level phases (not paragraph-level tasks).

When to Trigger

  • aw-discuss-2 confirms consistency between Research and Methodology
  • User explicitly runs /aw-plan command
  • Orchestrator calls this skill during GSDAW pipeline

Workflow

Step 1: Read Input Documents

1.1 Read Research Brief

Read .planning/research-brief.json and extract:

FieldPathUse
TitletitlePaper title in ROADMAP header
Target Venueconstraints.targetVenueJournal/conference
Deadlineconstraints.deadlineCalculate duration
ProblemresearchQuestion.problemIntroduction context
NoveltyresearchQuestion.noveltyIntroduction contributions
StrategyresearchApproach.strategyMethodology overview

1.2 Read Literature Summary

Read .planning/literature.md and extract:

FieldUse
Categories of related workStructure Related Work chapter
Key references (must-cite)Ensure proper citations
Research gapsPosition the contribution
Papers analyzed countEstimate Related Work scope

1.3 Read Methodology

Read .planning/methodology.md and extract:

FieldUse
Architecture componentsMethodology chapter tasks
DatasetsExperiment chapter
BaselinesExperiment chapter
Evaluation metricsResults chapter
Ablation studiesResults chapter
Figures neededCoordinate with figure skill
RisksDiscussion chapter

1.4 Read Discuss-2 Summary (if exists)

Read .planning/discuss-2-summary.md for any consensus notes or adjustments from the consistency check.

Step 2: Phase Decomposition

Standard IMRAD Phases

PhaseChapterGoal
1IntroductionEstablish context and motivate the work
2Related WorkPosition in existing literature
3MethodologyDescribe proposed approach
4ExperimentPresent experimental setup and results
5DiscussionInterpret results and implications
6ConclusionSummarize contributions and future work

Phase Dependencies

Phase 1 (Introduction) → None
Phase 2 (Related Work) → Phase 1 + Literature Summary
Phase 3 (Methodology) → Phase 2 + Methodology Design
Phase 4 (Experiment) → Phase 3
Phase 5 (Discussion) → Phase 4 + Literature Summary
Phase 6 (Conclusion) → Phase 5

Duration Estimation

Calculate estimated total duration based on deadline:

  1. Count days from today to deadline
  2. Allocate time per phase:
PhaseDefault Allocation
Introduction10% of total
Related Work15% of total
Methodology20% of total
Experiment25% of total
Discussion20% of total
Conclusion10% of total

Example: 5 weeks (35 days) until deadline:

  • Introduction: 3-4 days
  • Related Work: 5 days
  • Methodology: 7 days
  • Experiment: 9 days
  • Discussion: 7 days
  • Conclusion: 3-4 days

Step 3: Generate ROADMAP.md

Write to .planning/ROADMAP.md:

# GSDAW Roadmap

**Paper:** [title from brief]
**Target:** [journal/conference from brief]
**Estimated Duration:** [X weeks based on deadline]
