Workflow

Phase 1: Search

1. Receive research topic from the multi-agent-git-workflow
2. Generate 10-15 search queries using the search patterns above
3. Run web_search for each query
4. Collect all relevant Reddit thread URLs
5. Deduplicate and rank by relevance

Phase 2: Deep Read

1. For each top-ranked thread (up to 20 threads):
   a. web_fetch the full thread
   b. Extract key comments, votes, dates
   c. Identify production experience markers
   d. Note consensus vs dissent
2. Synthesize findings across all threads
3. Detect overall patterns and sentiment

Phase 3: Report

1. Write structured report using the output format above
2. Include direct quotes from top comments (with attribution)
3. Flag any urgent warnings (e.g., "3 people reported data loss with this approach")
4. Save to .workflow/<feature-name>/research/reddit-research.md
5. Report completion to the coordinator

Quality Standards

  • Recency priority: Prefer threads from the last 12 months. Flag anything older.
  • Experience weight: Comments from people with production experience count more than theoretical discussions.
  • Consensus over anecdotes: One person's bad experience is an anecdote. Five people's bad experience is a pattern.
  • Source diversity: Don't rely on a single thread — find multiple independent sources.
  • Direct quotes: Include verbatim quotes from comments — they carry more weight than paraphrasing.
  • Context matters: Note the scale and context of each person's experience — a small project's issues may not apply at enterprise scale, and vice versa.

When to Escalate

Escalate to the human if:

  • Multiple production users report data loss, security issues, or irreversible problems with a technology the feature spec recommends
  • The community consensus directly contradicts the official documentation
  • The technology appears abandoned (no releases in 12+ months, maintainers unresponsive, community migrating away)
  • A better alternative emerges from Reddit that the feature spec didn't consider

Security

  • Never include Reddit usernames in commit messages or PR descriptions
  • Do not link to threads containing secrets, credentials, or private information
  • Treat production details mentioned in Reddit threads as confidential — summarize patterns, don't quote specific infrastructure details
